THEMATIC GUIDED TOURS “FROM THE BULL TO THE MINOTAUR”
Museum archaeologists approach the famous myth of the Minotaur, tracing its origins and evolution through time, via the exhibits in the Museum Collections. The guided tour focuses on selected ancient objects depicting the bull in various contexts, on clay bull figurines and on coins of the Historical period bearing images associated with the myth. The tours are addressed to the general public and offered free of charge.
Tour programme: Saturday 11/2, Tuesday 14/2 and Wednesday 22/2, at 11:00.
Maximum number of participants: 25 visitors (on a first-come, first-served basis).
LECTURE BY MUSEUM NUMISMATIST – ARCHAEOLOGIST KLEANTHIS SIDIROPOULOS ON “CRETAN NUMISMATIC HISTORY. A PLAY IN TWO ACTS: ANTIQUITY – MEDIEVAL PERIOD AND BEYOND”
This lecture forms part of the series on Cretan History organised on the initiative of the Deputy Mayor for Culture and Volunteerism and the Heraklion Municipality Volunteer Group for Culture, in collaboration with the Heraklion Archaeological Museum and the Historical Museum of Crete. The lecture will take place at 18:00 on wednesday 22 February in the Museum Events Room. It will be followed by the presentation of the Museum Numismatic Collection from the recent exhibition.
PRESCHOOL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME “LITTLE BALL OF THREAD”
The programme is implemented in collaboration with the Primary Education School Activities Office, as a pilot project with the participation of the 62nd Nursery School of Heraklion and the Agia Varvara Nursery School. The programme will take place on Wednesday 15 and Friday 17 February. It can also be implemented with other school groups of the same age. SEMINAR FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS ON THE TWO DIGITAL PROGRAMMES IMPLEMENTED BY THE MUSEUM
A seminar for teachers at 11:00 on Saturday 18 February organised in collaboration with the Primary Education School Activities Office. The seminar is intended to familiarise teachers with the digital programmes of the Heraklion Archaeological Museum and their practical implementation.
IMPLEMENTATION OF DIGITAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMES BY THE MUSEUM STAFF
The implementation of the two digital educational programmes mentioned above continues. They are designed in the framework of the ERDF Operational Programme “Experiential Cultural Environments” action, for 3rd- and 4th-year Primary and Gymnasium students. FAMILY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME
An educational programme for families with children over five years old, on the theme of “Gods and Heroes at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum”. Guided by their parents with the aid of a leaflet, children discover the gods and heroes of the Ancient Greek world through the Museum exhibits, while learning about famous Cretan myths and legends. The leaflet is available at the ticket office at the Museum entrance.
