JUKTAS: NATURAL AND ANTHROPOGENIC LANDSCAPE

The Heraklion Archaeological Museum, in collaboration with the Heraklion Ephorate of Antiquities, the Natural History Museum of Crete, the Environmental Educational Centre of Archanes – Rouvas – Gouves and the Municipality of Archanes – Asterousia, is organising a series of events entitled “Juktas: Natural and Anthropogenic Landscape”, in the context of the celebration of International Museum Day 2016 on the theme of “Museums and Cultural Landscapes”.

The events will be held from 18 to 22 May 2016 and include the following:

-  διαλέξεις από εξειδικευμένους επιστήμονες πάνω στο φυσικό και το ανθρωπογενές περιβάλλον της συγκεκριμένης περιοχής (αίθουσα εκδηλώσεων του Α. Μ. Η.),

  • lectures by specialist scientists on the natural and anthropogenic environment of the area (Heraklion Archaeological Museum conference room)
  • thematic presentations by Museum staff of archaeological assemblages from the area, on display in the Heraklion Archaeological Museum
  • presentation of the work of the Environmental Educational Centre of Archanes – Rouvas – Gouves by members of the Centre
  • the events will conclude with a tour of the Juktas landscape.

Entrance and participation in these events is free of charge.

WEDNESDAY 18 MAY 2016

10:00 – 13:00. Thematic presentations by Museum staff of archaeological assemblages from the Archanes - Juktas area, in the Museum exhibition rooms (presentations start at 10:00, 11:00 and 12:00).

18:00 – 19:00. Presentation of the Juktas peak sanctuary by Mrs Alexandra Karetsou, Honorary Ephor of Antiquities, in the Heraklion Archaeological Museum conference room.

19:00 – 20:00. Presentation of the archaeological sites of Archanes by Dr Antonis Vasilakis, Honorary Ephor of Antiquities, in the Heraklion Archaeological Museum conference room.

 

THURSDAY 19 MAY 2016

17:00 – 20:00. Thematic presentations by Museum staff of archaeological assemblages from the Archanes - Juktas area, in the Museum exhibition rooms (presentations start at 17:00, 18:00 and 19:00).

 

FRIDAY 20 MAY 2016

18:00 – 19:00. Presentation of the geological environment of the Juktas – Archanes area by Dr Charalambos Fassoulas, Head of the Geodiversity Department of the Natural History Museum of Crete, in the Heraklion Archaeological Museum conference room.

19:00 – 20:00. Presentation of the flora of the Juktas – Archanes area by Mrs Eri Antaloudaki, agricultural technician of the Natural History Museum of Crete, in the Heraklion Archaeological Museum conference room.

 

SATURDAY 21 MAY 2016

10:00 – 13:00. Thematic presentations by Museum staff of archaeological assemblages from the Archanes - Juktas area, in the Museum exhibition rooms (presentations start at 10:00, 11:00 and 12:00)

 

SUNDAY 22 MAY 2016

Visit to sites of archaeological and environmental interest in Archanes and on Mt Juktas.

(The tour of the area will be provided by archaeologists Dr A. Vasilakis and A. Karetsou, geologist Dr Ch. Fassoulas, agricultural technician E. Antaloudaki and members of the educational team of the Environmental Educational Centre of Archanes – Rouvas – Gouves).

13:30 – 14:30. Presentation of the work of the Environmental Educational Centre of Archanes – Rouvas – Gouves by the Head of the Centre Mrs Maria Sfakianaki, and the members of the Centre educational team.
