LEGACIES OF BEAUTY. ARCHAEOLOGICAL TREASURES FROM JAPAN

A unique cultural event at the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion

The first large exhibition of ancient works of Japanese art in Greece will be hosted at the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion from 2 June to 24 September 2023. The exhibition is a requital of the temporary exhibition “A Journey to the Land of Immortals-4,000 years of Greek Treasures”, which travelled to museums in Japan in 2016 and 2017, in the framework of promoting ancient Greek culture in the Land of the Rising Sun. The reciprocal exhibition includes 61 ancient works from the permanent Collections of the Tokyo National Museum and constitutes a panorama of the ancient Japanese culture, from the fourth millennium BC to 600 AD.

This unique cultural event is organized by the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion in collaboration with the Directorate of Archaeological Museums, Exhibitions and Educational Programmes of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Tokyo National Museum.
